You're getting a peek into my bedroom....

I knew I wanted blue in the bedroom. I had a swatch taped to the wall for upwards of a year so blue was definitely it. But when it came time to actually paint the room, I was glad I put actual paint on the walls themselves to really see how they would look.

To my surprise, my first pick leaned too dark. Even though the room gets plenty of north-facing light, I realized I didn’t want to wake up every morning in what felt like a cave. So I pivoted and went lighter and that decision completely transformed the space.

The color I landed on is a warm, soft blue that feels anything but “little boy blue.” Instead, it reads sophisticated, serene, and quietly stunning. It has just enough depth to feel moody at night, while still staying airy and fresh during the day.

Paired with all the natural wood tones in our room, and especially with the beautiful, crocheted wall piece I cherish from Taryn Urushido, the blue becomes the perfect backdrop. It highlights the warmth of the wood and gives the whole space a collected, layered feeling that feels both personal and timeless.

Doors, trim, ceiling are all wrapped in this gorgeous blue. And I couldn’t be happier. If you’re wary of color drenching, don’t be. I promise you won’t regret drenching a room and you may even wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

A note on Taryn's Piece- Taryn and I have been friends for a while and I've always admired her work. I knew I wanted a piece by her for a long time so when we were getting ready to move to the Hudson Valley, I decided it was time. Taryn created the piece from leather from my leather bag brand and other materials from her studio. The result is something I will cherish forever.
